This is not a revelation. Guys, in general, don’t wash their hands after using public toilets. So, when they don’t, to me, others doing so, seems futile. Imagine. I wash my hands and then have the daunting task of getting out of the loo, without contracting the germs of others who had not washed theirs’. The doorknob isn’t really the culprit, considering that if there was no door, we could walk out without touching one. But eliminating the door is not a solution that all of us would agree upon. It leaves too much to deal with, from aesthetics to hygiene.
Another alternative is to fix a wash basin just out side. Again, it’s too complicated logistically, and aesthetically unappealing. Getting cleaners to wipe down the door knob after every person, or fixing remote-sensor doors, could be too costly and may not always be the most sensible option. How about designing a ‘snakeskin’ type doorknob, which sheds it’s ‘skin’ every time you use it? Well, if you have a lot of time on your hands, work on that. You could be the proud owner of its patent, one day.
I am sure there could be hundreds of solutions, but the way forward is if we can find a solution that is cheap and easy. Here is an idea for a brand of waterless hand sanitizers, that could be placed just outside. It will get you noticed, and tell people that you think a bit further than your competition, especially if that brand has secured a place inside the washroom.
“Have you just come out of a public washroom?
It is time to look for the ones you dearly love.”
